Bomb-blast Buddies

It's funny how it takes something like a bomb blast to make some people, who have seemingly forgotten your existence, suddenly stir from their stupor and send you a panicky SMS asking if you are okay. I call these people "bomb-blast buddies" and was quite amused when I received many such texts in the aftermath of the multiple Bangalore bombings.

Can we call such people friends? After all, a friend would want to know about you and you life even in non life-threatening conditions, is it not? But bomb-blast buddies only want to know if you are dead or alive. I really fail to see the point of such purported concern or affection.

its for the glamour element. if you had died (im glad you dint) then they would have an instant hit, center-of-attention statement, "i know someone who died in the blast..."
i think secretly they are most dissapointed when they get a, "i'm ok"

OMG, are you ok?! ;)

I did think of you when I read of the bombs, but I just thought there's probably more people in Bangalore than the whole of the UK... what are the chances?

And hey, you didn't text me when London was hit. But then I guess we didn't know each other then :)

ha ha.

now we should think twice before making a new friend. we should first research the psyche of the new accomplice before asking for a friendship.

thank god i didn't sent an sms to you. if i had the number i would have. i have sent at least ten sms to my friends in bangalore.

now i am worried.

strange thought... but i guess u should look at things in much more positive manner...people who messaged you might not be your "true friends" who are there with you in all walks of life.. but they are definetly those who remembered you and got concerned...
